EA’s Sporepedia Leaks Personal Info
Hundreds of thousands of people have uploaded their creatures from the Spore Creature Creator to EA’s Sporepedia site. They might regret that Monday.
The sites leaves key personal info of those creators exposed and raises the possibility that malicious marketers could use this to spam Spore fans. D’oh!
Sporepedia leaks your email addresses. Rouli over at HexAppeal discovered you can see the e-mail addresses of a creature’s creator with a simple debug tool.
Even worse: “One can write a very simple program in order to mine those addresses, without the need to actually browse Sporepedia using Firefox,” he says.
Sounds like a bonanza for any maniac that wants to blast all Spore fans with 35,000 Viagra ads each. Or any video game company that’s looking for an awesome marketing list. Keep your spam guard up.
